Job description

Objectives:

  • The Global Environment, Climate Change and Energy Expert will lead Ayuda en Acción’s technical practice in global environment, climate change and energy. The role aims to position the organization strategically with key stakeholders and to provide high-quality technical advisory support for the design and management of programmes at both Country Office and Headquarters levels.
  • The position contributes to the conceptualization, design, implementation, oversight and accompaniment of programmes related to the global environment, climate change, and energy for development across Ayuda en Acción’s areas of operation in Africa, Europe, and Latin America, as well as its corporate areas.

 

Responsabilities:

 

Strategic Leadership and Positioning

  • Provide strategic vision and technical leadership to the Programmes Director and the Head of the Technical and Innovation Unit on Global Environment, Climate Change, and Energy, including (but not limited to): climate finance, regenerative agriculture, forest conservation, ecosystem-based adaptation, institutional carbon footprint monitoring, green energy market development, energy transition, and access to sustainable energy.
  • Lead the implementation of Ayuda en Acción’s Institutional Strategy on Global Environment and Climate Change, ensuring coherence across programmes and regions.
  • Position Ayuda en Acción as a recognized actor in the global environment, climate change, and energy through participation in international forums, events, and networks, and through the dissemination of best practices, learning, and impact evidence.

 

Programme Design, Implementation, and Advisory Support

  • Provide technical advisory support to Country Offices and corporate areas in programme and project design, partnership development, research, and innovation related to the global environment, climate change, and energy.
  • Contribute to the conceptualization, design, documentation, and management of programmes and projects, ensuring technical quality and alignment with institutional strategies.
  • Collaborate with programme components including research, implementation, monitoring and evaluation (M&E), and learning, to ensure coherence and effectiveness from inception through scale-up.
  • Support and technically guide projects applying the Market Systems Development (MSD) methodology, particularly in energy and green market systems.
  • Design and develop products and knowledge assets to facilitate the application of institutional strategies and models across the organization.

 

Partnerships and Resource Mobilization

  • Lead the identification and development of strategic partnerships, in coordination with the Alliances area, with public sector, private sector, civil society, and development actors aligned with Ayuda en Acción’s objectives in the global environment, climate change, and energy.
  • Work closely with the Fundraising Department to identify and pursue funding opportunities from institutional and private donors relevant to the thematic scope of the position.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with development agencies, local governments, NGOs, and other relevant stakeholders.

 

Innovation and Systems Change

  • Design and promote innovative, scalable models, programmes, and methodologies related to the global environment, climate change, and energy.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of market-based and systems-oriented solutions supporting green energy transition and inclusive energy markets.
  • Design, coordinate, monitor, and support the implementation of Ayuda en Acción’s institutional carbon footprint reduction strategy.

 

 

Requirements

Knowledge and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Agricultural Sciences, Development Studies, Management Sciences, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in a global environment, climate change, and energy for development, with demonstrated expertise in inclusive energy markets and green energy transition.
  • Proven experience working with international organizations or development agencies.
  • Experience working in Africa and Latin America.
  • Strong experience in partnership building and multi-stakeholder collaboration, including engagement with the private sector.
  • Demonstrated experience applying the Market Systems Development (MSD) methodology.
  • At least 5 years of experience designing and implementing innovative programmes in the energy and/or private sector development fields.
  • Strong knowledge of key actors and dynamics in the global environment, climate change, and energy sectors.
  • Knowledge or experience in social impact investment is an asset.

 

Languages:

  • Imprescindible: Spanish and English: C1: advanced
  • Desirable: French/Portuguese: B1: Intermediate

 

Geographic mobility

  • Yes, for national and international travel.

Mandatory requirements to be able to participate in the selection process
